Achieving climate goals
As governments, public authorities at all levels and businesses seek to address this challenge by scaling up and accelerating mitigation and adaptation strategies, engineers and technologists can play an extremely valuable role. CAETS outlined the commitment of engineers to help governments achieve their climate goals.
Redesigning technical education
Engineering work is highly creative, which requires appropriate learning content and delivery methods. The IAS invited prominent players from education, business and politics to give a comprehensive presentation of the current situation and to outline a range of possible measures to further improve the situation.
IAS views on the development of the energy sector in Slovenia up to 2030 with a view to 2050
The Slovenian Academy of Engineers has recognised that Slovenia urgently needs a clear, sustainable and development-oriented energy vision and strategy. It formed a working group to prepare IAS positions on the development of the energy sector in Slovenia up to 2030, with a view to 2050. From an in-depth and lengthy discussion between members of the Academy and other experts in the field of energy, we came up with 17 positions for a new energy concept for Slovenia.
Slovenia's new innovation system
Slovenia is a country with strong intellectual potential and a tradition of innovation. With the closure or sell-off of large companies, the abolition of development departments after independence in 1991, reduced support for the scientific and educational spheres despite the 2011 Declaration and a dysfunctional innovation process, innovative knowledge-based development has almost come to a standstill. The IAS has made three proposals to assert the strengths, remedy the situation and address the weaknesses.
