History

On 21 June 1995, a group of Slovenian scientists in the field of engineering and natural sciences and prominent engineers, members of SATENA, founded the Slovenian Academy of Engineering.

Aiming to shape perspectives

The purpose of the foundation was to create a platform for policy and to shape the development perspectives of manufacturing industries, scientific and technological research and quality engineering and management studies in Slovenia.

Inclusion in the world

Prof. Dr. Gunar Solenius, President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, the first in the world, was present at this inaugural event. Today, IAS is a member of EURO-CASE.

The first period as a private association

The Academy has been operating under the umbrella of SATENA for 11 years.

IAS Act - public law entity

The National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Law on the Engineering Academy of Slovenia at its session on 23rd November 2006. It defined in detail the role of the IAS as a national institution bringing together elected members from the engineering sciences, public research, business and technological development. The Academy thus became an autonomous legal entity governed by public law with all rights, obligations and responsibilities.

93 members

Every second year, the Academy may elect new members. There are currently 93 members, including 45 full members, 29 associate members, 14 corresponding (foreign) members and 5 honorary members.

The IAS collaborates with the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU) in all important fields of science and technology for the benefit of our Slovenian nation.
