Leon CIZELJ

Prof. Dr. Cizelj is active in the field of nuclear engineering and nuclear safety, both scientifically and as a teacher. His research contributes to ensuring the structural integrity of safety system components and to predicting the safe lifetime of nuclear power plants. Together with his colleagues, he develops models and computer simulations in the fields of structural mechanics, fracture mechanics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer. His recent experimental work has focused on the elucidation of heat and material transfer in two-phase flows, mainly due to boiling. He is also very active in leadership and in strategic decision-making bodies, in particular supervisory boards in industry, boards of international scientific associations, committees for the formulation and guidance of international and national research strategies, and in science communication. Co-author and editor of more than 900 scientific, technical and popular science publications with more than 200 articles, commentaries and opinion pieces on scientific and technical issues (COVID-19, energy, nuclear energy) in leading national and international media.
