Franc SOLINA

Franc Solina was one of the first generations of Slovenian secondary school students to choose computer science as an elective. After receiving his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of at the University of Ljubljana, he continued his education in computer science at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his Ph. Attracted to visual thinking, he specialized in computer vision. He developed a new method for reconstructing geometric volumetric models (superquadrics) from 3D visual data. After returning to the University of Ljubljana, he founded the Computer Vision Laboratory in 1991. His method of superquadric reconstruction has been applied to many different fields. He became involved in the documentation of 3D data in archaeology. He studied the use of cameras in human-computer communication. This led him to the production of new media art and eventually to teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts. During the Bologna reform and the architectural planning of the new building for the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, he served as its dean.
